|SHEILA FILLING OUT ENTRY CARDS FOR THE FLOWER SHOW|
Sheila, Stephen, and Schwartz (their beloved dog) live at 3911 Brook Road in the historic Ginter Park community in north Richmond. They have a 2-story brick colonial revival home circa 1935 and are situated on approx. 3/4 acre of land. When Sheila and Stephen moved to their Ginter Park home in the fall of 1999, their first challenge was to tame all the overgrown trees and shrubs. Since then, they’ve been tackling one project after another, and have completely transformed their landscape. Their backyard now includes a wide variety of garden areas designed specifically to provide year-round color. It showcases a wide variety of plant material—perennials, annuals, herbs, bulbs, grasses, vines, and shrubs—a flower gardener’s dream. Their backyard garden includes: a large flower bed featuring unusual sun, part-sun, and shade perennials; a sunroom bed featuring unusual part-sun perennials and shrubs; several beds showcasing daylilies; a 3-tier terraced bed featuring a mix of perennials, biennials, and bulbs; a cutting garden grown primarily from seed every; a formal herb garden with a central water feature; a 2-level brick patio lined with a pergola covered with climbing roses; several raised beds that provide temporary plant homes and accommodate plant propagation; and a shaded gazebo area.
In the fall of 2003, the Weisensales began a multi-year transformation of their front yard which they completed in the spring of 2007. Their front yard is now a landscape consisting primarily of unusual, hard to find shrubs and trees that thrive in a Zone 7 garden. Additionally, some of their favorite ‘hot color’ daylilies are showcased in the front yard landscape.
Come see the Weisensales’ garden if you would like to see a garden that has lots of color and unusual plant material. You will enjoy seeing a small daylily collection of approximately 200 varieties that primarily includes round and ruffled, miniature, and double daylilies.
